The Crayon Song

This is currently Cassie's favorite song. If I can A) Get my camera to work and B) Get her to perform for the camera, I will have her sing it. This is a song we sang when we were little. Anyway, here are the words:

Oh, when I was a little child no higher than your knee, my mommy bought a box of crayons just for me. I picked them up. I opened them up. I looked way down inside. The colors reminded me of Jesus when He died.

OH-H-H red is the color of the blood that he shed. Brown is for the crown of thorns they placed upon his head. OH-H-H blue is for royality, which in him did dwell. Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.

I colored and I colored 'til my crayons were all gone. Even though I am older now my memory lingers on. So when I see a little child with a crayon box in hand, I tell them what it means to me and hope they understand.

OH-H-H red is the color of the blood that he shed. Brown is for the crown of thorns they placed upon his head. OH-H-H blue is for royality, which in him did dwell. Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.

Afraid to tell of a Saviour who died on Calvary. He died for lowly sinners just like you and me. Someday soon He's coming back to be our King and the colors of the crayon box we will sing!

OH-H-H red is the color of the blood that he shed. Brown is for the crown of thorns they placed upon his head. OH-H-H blue is for royality, which in him did dwell. Yellow is for the Christian who's afraid to tell.

So, don't you be a Christian, who's afraid to tell!

This is a kiddie song, but I think that it is a powerful reminder. Still to this day, I think of such things when I open up my crayons. I have thought of the significance of other colors, as well. I am thankful for tools like this that will instill truth in the heart of my 2 year old RIGHT NOW so that she has a solid foundation on which to build her whole life through. She knows the chorus of this song and parts of the verses. God will hold me accountable for the teaching of my children someday. I hope that He will tell me that I did well teaching my children to love and follow Him. It's a huge burden on my heart.
